Mates in a Miata

30 Dec 2010 by Skyring

Hello, Discoverlover!

It’s me, Skyring, here in a very summery Canberra. Not quite Paradise, but still my favorite city in all the world.

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw two beautiful young women in a bright blue convertible, both smiling and waving at me. Every man’s dream come true!

Changing the subject entirely, I remember my first trip to Charleston, when I managed to score a short ride in MartiP’s Miata – the US version of Viv’s Eunos. Marti, tall, blonde, willowy and with a delightful tendency to hug me at random intervals, looked over at me and winked as we drove down Broad Street. “Pity it’s raining, Pete, otherwise I’d put my top down and we could have some fun!”

I bit my tongue. She’s a married lady, after all, her husband the most wickedly handsome man in the world.

But I think of her whenever I see one of those sweet little convertibles.

And now I’ll think of you and Viv as well.

The blue matches your eyes, you know. You should put aside your dreams of becoming a semi-trailer jockey and aim for a cute convertible.

Seeing you and Viv together in Sydney was a treat. Great mates, you hugged each other at every opportunity. You and several other BookCrossers. It’s a community that encourages friendships through sharing books, experiences, friends. Every gathering is a pleasure -meeting old friends and making new ones.

And as you say, babies have been born because of BookCrossing. There are some delightful love stories resulting in weddings and children. We both know and love Rebecca and Jason, and their two darling children, but there are other tales.

Tales of love and friendship. Isn’t that what life is all about?

Thanks for sharing time with me. In real life, on the web, it’s always a delight to exchange stories and smiles with you. 2010 has been fun, and I’m looking forward to more of the same in 2011. May your year be full of joy and smiles and hugs and happiness!

Yours aye,
Skyring

Music

30 Dec 2010 by Discoverylover

Hey Skyring!

I’m in Paradise, but we had a massive storm last night and there’s no power, and we aren’t sure if our spring is blocking water from our water tank, so we’re trying not to use too much water.

I could read, but I did a heck of a lot of reading yesterday (I finally finished Crossing Paths so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to write you a letter instead :D

So, music. You’d think it would be an easy topic, but for some reason I haven’t been able to think of anything to say! But I have been thinking about it, and the other day I was thinking about it and Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield came on.

I love this song. A few weeks ago I was visiting our friend Viv in Nowra. One night we were out getting pizza for dinner and this song came on. Apparently Viv loves it too, so we turned it up really loud and started to sing along.

I should point out that Viv has quite possibly the most awesome car in the world. It’s tiny, blue, and has a fold down roof. The perfect car for turning up a song and singing out loud. Especially if you want the rest of Australia to hear :p

It was one of the best 4 minutes of my life – just like listening to Lord of the Rings driving up to Hanmer. Perfection.

And I guess that’s one of the things I love about music. It has the most awesome ability to bring people together in the most beautiful ways.

Just the other day I was on the Sister Hazel (you can’t expect me to talk about music without mentioning them can you!) forums and read something someone had written. Something along the lines of

“Don’t let the crickets chirping fool you, this website use to be a hoppin joint. There have been babies born because of this place. Just sayin.”

As a newcomer to that particular forum, I wasn’t around in those days, but I don’t find it difficult to believe. A lot of the people I love also love Sister Hazel. Something about them brings awesome people together.

BookCrossing is the same I guess. There’s a few people I know who’ve been brought together through it, Jason and Rebecca are the ones that spring to mind most readily, but I know you’ve got a collection of amazing true life love stories up your sleeve!

No wonder I enjoyed Crossing Paths so much, it was full of love stories! Definitely going to warrant a re-read, especially now that I’ve got all the characters sorted in my head!

I hope you’re having a wonderful week, and that you’re RTS!
